DIALOG ABOUT SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Fandi                  : Well as we know, many talk show on television for example Empat Mata, Buaya Show, Kick Andy and the others. So, because we are in agriculture scope, we should discuss that matter and you can call “ AGRICULTURE SHOW”. In the first show we talk about sustainable agriculture. Well, here I need your help all, when I say “AGRICULTURE SHOW”, you say I like it.

                           Ok before I invite the resource that expart in agriculture, by the way the one of audiens know about sustainable agriculture. Now, I call the resource.

Fandi                  : Well, you look fresh today. Ok, before you say about sustainable agriculture, you can introduce your self and your profile in agriculture.

Dwita                 : Of course. My name’s Dwita Anggraeni. I came from Thailand. Now, I work at ASEAN Institutional Assesor. I am an agriculture scientist. I have been working here since 3 years. During that time, I did several research in ASEAN. And now, I do research about decreasing of farm yield in Thailand because yield productivity is decreasing gradually.

Fandi                  : Wow...amazing. well, may be you can tell about your experience in an agriculture manajement?

Dwita                 : I do research in South East Asia. Now, I’m focus in Thailand. I do research about decreasing of farm yield. In this research, I conducted a research about decreasing of farm productivity. After I know the causes, I thought  the solution and gave it to people that live there.

Fandi                  : From your experience, what benefit could you take?

Dwita                 : After I have research at Thailand farm. I know that Thailand farming system experiencing ecological decreased in envirment and crop farming system (explain with picture).

Fandi                  : Than I heard you have made new method. Where we can consurevated envirament and also help the farmers to keep the productivity?

Dwita                 : After I do research for two years, I found a new method to aplicate of farming method. Sustainable Agriculture basicly  tell about farming activity that is the proper way to maintance nature biodiviscity.

Fandi                  : Ok, before we discuss about Sustainable Agriculture, here we have the activice and also the leader community farmers in Thailand and he is Arghya Narendra.

                              Ok Arghya, you can introduce your name and about your profile first.

Arghya               : Thank you. My name is Arghya Narendra. I’m one of the member in INDONESIAN FARMER UNION.

Fandi                  : So, what is your argument about Dwita’s statement with your background in community farmer Indonesian?

Arghya               : I don’t care about Sustainable Agriculture, because modern agriculture is only focusing in profit. Modern agriculture has Industrial scale. That is mean we have more worker than konvensional one. If we don’t get high profit, we can not pay our worker.

Fandi                  : And what is your argument Dwita?

Dwita                 : This methood is relativity new, but from my research I can increase and maintance the ecosystem.

Arghya               : But another problem in Indonesia is not only we don’t have a lot space to devvelop our agriculture system, but a to devvelop our agriculture system, but also our agriculture ecosystem is not good though. So we can’t implement Sustainable Agriculture.

Dwita                 : But sustainable agriculture also think about human for the evidence, the locals who can live coexsistenly within coexisting with nature. The farmer can get different type of yield in different seasons. Sustainable agriculture will be success if profitable in economy, ecology, and social aspecs.

Fandi                  : Well, may be Dwita can show the prove?

Dwita                 : (IMPROVE)

Fandi                  : I heard Dwita was success bring farmers in your program. I think that’s amazing. Can you show the people?

Dwita                 : Of course. Now, I will call farmer and she will explain to you about her’s system agriculture. That farmer has joined my sustainable agriculture program, and I think the program is successful.

Fandi                  : Ok, now we call Saadatul Huriyah....You can introduce your self and your profile.

Saadatul             : Hello, my name is Saadatul Huriyah. I am a farmer of convensional farmer following sustainable agriculture programe made by miss dwita. And for the host, I will give you souvenir from this sustainable agriculture programe that I have done. This souvenir is result of my farm agroforestry system, that I have developed in my farming system.

Fandi                  : You can give explanation about your experience?

Saadatul             : The first purpose joining this programe is for increasing quality and quantity of farm yield. My reason to increase quality and quantity of yield because paddy is the major staple food in Thailand. My second purpose following sustainable agriculture programe using agroforestry system because I want to get profit in my farming activity. I have developed paddy cropping system and also bananas as shade plant fir my paddy. Using this system, I get profit not only paddy yield but also bananas yield that which I can selt to the market as well.

Fandi                  : So, what about Mr. Arghya? What is the system that you will choose?

Arghya               : I’m agree with that statement, but now the problem is Indonesian ecological system is different with Thailand Agroecological system?

Saadatul             : I have conducted that system for two years. I get satisfying result because our agroecology climate same with Indonesia.

Fandi                  : What about the audiens?

Arghya               : I agree..
